President Jimmy Carter Mock Obituary Slideshow

Decision Process

I began by making a list of accomplishments and things that this person was known for in their life.

  • Presidency 1977-1981

    • Camp David Accords

    • Panama Canal Treaties

    • Department of energy + education

    • SALT II

  • 76th Governor of Georgia 1971

  • Carter center 1982

  • Married Rosalynn Smith 1946

  • Naval career 1946, served inactive until 1961

  • Family’s peanut growing business

  • Teaches Sunday school

  • Habitat for Humanity

Then I went through the wire services looking for images that fit those accomplishments. I collected 50 images, and then narrowed it down to 20.

For the final edit I wanted to have one or two images that demonstrated his life before becoming president, so I included a portrait while he was in the navy and as a peanut farmer. I also included several achievements Carter did during his presidency such as the Panama Canal treaties, SALT II, and the Department of Energy.

Since Carter is one of the oldest living and longest-lived presidents, I wanted a good mix of his life post-presidency too, this included his work with Habitat for Humanity, teaching Sunday school, and the Carter Center. Lastly, I wanted to incorporate his wife Rosalynn while also choosing the informative images, so she is in a few.
