Decision Making
For the picture package I made a list of moments that were important to capturing the essence of the celebration.
The crowd cheering, Billye Aaron, the team with the trophy, the mascot, celebration, key players…
After I made that list I went to the wire services and found images that fit. I made the lede a simple celebratory image and made the headline and deck about Hank Aaron. I chose three images from the parade and three form the celebration at Truist Park.
For the slideshow I wanted an equal mix between the crowd at the parade and team players. I chose a celebratory photo as the hook because its has some action which would hopefully catch someone’s attention. Since the uniforms are the same and repetitive I used the crowd and other moments to break them up. It was important to show the population of people there, a close up of signs, top players, and Billye Aaron. I wanted to include an emotive image of Billye since the parade started at the Hank Aaron home run monument and was dedicated to him.
The Facebook image I chose is a simpler version of the picture front and slideshow opener. The image is easily recognizable if you follow baseball, it has the jerseys and you can see that there is a celebration happening. I wanted there to be similarity among each portion of this layout while also having some different aspects. I also wanted to carry the theme of honoring Hank Aaron throughout the entire piece.
